Art & Design
At Thorncombe St Mary’s, we aim to develop children’s creativity through our themes. Each theme is designed to cover a wide range of skills that progress through each year. The children have opportunities to draw, paint, print, make collages, use fabrics and threads and use clay. They are taught the skills and techniques, then given the opportunity to practise them to produce individual and group pieces of work.
We also encourage the children to study a variety of classical and modern artists such as Banksy, Hundertwasser and Rorschach. As children go through the school, they are encouraged to think critically and develop an understanding about art and design.
The scheme 'Kapow' is used to ensure consistency and coverage in Art & Design lesson.
